“We do not want to leave! We have had the best holiday we ever had in the Uk. Excellent accommodation, excellent hosts and the weather has been very kind. It’s the best place we’ve ever stayed in. “Wow, what a lovely place to stay! This is on of the best cottages we have stayed in. It’s fantastically equipped with so many thoughtful touches. The information book was/is amazing – we did quite a few of the local walks starting from SV. The Stag Inn is a definite recommendation – lovely food and place! We will have to come back.”

“Our first visit to SV and a very long time since we were last in Dufton (probably 25 years ago!). We have had an absolute blast. Just brilliant accommodation and hospitality. We have walked locally most days and made v. good use of the maps and laminates. The weather has been a joy every single day. “Little lambs gathered by the gate on arrival, the Ewes that pretend to be distant but aren’t really, they’ll peer through the kitchen window to say ‘hello’ at breakfast. The mustard velour chair, so good to sink into after a long walk, it’s been my saviour. Fantastic stay, walks and memories. High Cup Nick the classic route and heading down the valley via the rocky scree. You only live your life once – so do it!”

“What a FAB-U-LOUS place this is! There is quality and attention to detail throughout and it has been marvellous staying here. “We had a great time at Shepherds View over Xmas. Had everything we needed and the place is very cosy and comfy. We loved the views and easy access to walks. Simon & Carole even saved our Xmas by giving us some potatoes on Xmas day when we realised we left ours at home. 10/10 would recommend.”
“Relaxing and enjoyable stay, really lovely cottage, everything we needed was provided. First time to this area, lovely walks, shops in Appleby, food at Stag Inn great, Thurs quiz good. We had rain but it didn’t spoil anything.”
“OK! So it rained all week, the Stag’s kitchen was closed all week for maintenance, Dufton Cafe was closed for the winter break, but it didn’t matter! Shepherd’s View is delightful. The tup-serviced sheep kept us entertained. Everything is provided. The hamper contents were devoured. Best place for eating out – Casa Verde at Larch Nurseries. The nursery itself is large enough for you to get up an appetite as is the opposite shop. Enjoy!”

“We have had a lovely 6 days here enjoying the sights and sounds of the Platinum Jubilee weekend! Lovely walks – recommend Maulds Meaburn walk and Kirkby Stephen south to Pendragon Castle. Meals at the Stag Inn are great – what a view from the beer garden. We have also enjoyed being here – lovely accommodation and garden – we even managed a BBQ one evening. Just lovely, thank you!”

The bluebells in the Ghyll were amazing as were the views from the Pike. We have found the week to be so relaxing, especially a jacuzzi after walking and then such a comfortable bed. “After 2 Covid cancellations, we finally made it to this fantastic holiday home. The view is terrific and the barn is so well equipped with everything you could possibly need. Everything is pristine and feels brand new. Thanks for the lovely welcome hamper and for the little extras. The Stag Inn is very good and we booked in advance by email to be sure. There’s so much useful information here and the laminated walk instructions are spot-on. We only had rain one day so had plenty of time for walking. “What a gem of a find the place was! Perfect location, who wouldn’t want views over glorious open countryside? Everything at SV is high end and the attention to detail is superb! We have been supremely comfortable here. We came to walk and we have walked our socks off! We brought books and maps which we never opened thanks to the detailed walks left by our hosts…did all the local walks including Dufton Pike and High Cup. Amazing views both of them.
